Why Christian Eriksen hasn't left Manchester United in summer transfer window

The CEO of Anderlecht has hinted Christian Eriksen's wage demands were too large to lure him away from Manchester United.

Anderlecht's manager was part of Thomas Frank's coaching staff at Brentford and discussed the possibility of rekindling his relationship with Eriksen earlier in the transfer window.

The Belgian club have been among the sides to be linked with a move for Eriksen, along with his former club Ajax and a handful Turkish clubs, but he remains a United player.

Eriksen's role was reduced last season and he made just 12 Premier League starts, which led to suggestions he could leave United in search of regular game time. He has entered the final year of his contract and this summer was the last chance to bank a reasonable fee for him.

Anderlecht had expressed an interest in signing Eriksen, but there are just two days remaining in the summer transfer window and he is expected to stay at Old Trafford.

“I myself have never mentioned the name Christian Eriksen, but of course, I know Christian. He is a top player who is still contracted for one year at a top club,” Anderlecht's CEO, Jesper Fredberg, told Het Nieuwsblad. "At the moment, (signing Eriksen) doesn’t seem realistic.

"But if a door suddenly opens, I want to be the first to step in. It’s not just about what Manchester United is asking for, but it will also be about the player’s salary demands in such a case.”

Although Eriksen discussed his lack of game time in the Danish press when on international duty last season, he sounded more upbeat about his future at Old Trafford in July.
