Something unexpected could happen at Manchester United after Manuel Ugarte transfer

Sir Alex Ferguson famously called complacency among players a 'disease' in 2016.

The legendary former Manchester United manager understood the importance of competition for places and how fresh blood would give his players a kick up the backside.

Casemiro is a current member of the dressing room who could do with a jolt and Manuel Ugarte's imminent arrival from Paris Saint-Germain could provoke a response from him.

The Brazilian was outstanding in his first season at United but shocking in his second year. Ugarte is a mobile defensive midfielder, he will recover and intercept balls and is expected to start in front of the backline with Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes playing ahead of him.

United have splashed €50million (£42.3m), with a further €10m (£8.5m) in add-ons to sign Ugarte and he arrived in Manchester on Tuesday to undergo his medical and finalise his move.

Fresh legs were required in United's midfield and the club believe their deal with PSG has shown their patient approach to the negotiations in this summer window has worked.

The signing of Ugarte is better later than never and he is expected to be available for selection against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon. Casemiro started the opening games of the season against Fulham and Brighton but he will now have to fight to retain his starting role.

Casemiro didn't spectacularly regress last season due to complacency, he merely looked like a player who had helplessly entered the winter of his career, which was sad to see, but perhaps Ugarte's arrival will provide him with the spark he needs to recapture his best form.
