Who will win Scotland vs England? Our writers make their predictions ahead of Hampden battle

Hampden is back to its raucous best these days but it'll have an extra edge on Tuesday night when the Auld Enemy come to town.

It may be an international friendly but not one person in the country will be treating it as one with pride and bragging rights more than enough to play for. Steve Clarke and Scotland go into it as firm second favourites, but 11 international wins on the spin and five in a row to start qualifying have the Scots confident they can turn over England and spark another memorable night at the national stadium.

England dropped their first points in qualifying against Ukraine but have a depth of quality available to them most nations can only dream of. It's set to be a belter of a game and here, the Record Sport team have their say on how it will go.

The English media are already saying Scotland will win this one because our players ‘want it more’, which is both arrogant and delusional. We’ll win it because, in spite of all the individual brilliance in Gareth Southgate’s squad, we have a smarter manager and a stronger, more cohesive team.

Scotland 2 England 1

This Scotland team is riding on the crest of a wave that can drown English hopes of putting us back in our box. Gareth Southgate team have so many talented players and can cause Steve Clarke’s men problems at the top end of the pitch, but Scotland have so many goal threats from middle to front these days that they need fear nobody, particularly at Hampden.

It might only be a friendly, but momentum is everything and we can take another win into our next challenge, away to Spain next month.

Scotland 2 England 1

The friendly that will never be friendly. Expect a rip-roaring contest where absolutely nothing is left out on the Hampden turf.
