English shock jock in jibe at Daily Record for backing Scotland win as he tells the nation 'calm your skins down'

English pundit Adrian Durham has told Scotland fans to get real.

The opinionated observer was in Glasgow on Tuesday night and watched England dismantle Steve Clarke’s side 3-1 in a one-sided clash at Hampden. It dampened the fervour around our national team who still stand on the brink of reaching Euro 2024 after a flawless start to the qualifying campaign.

And speaking on talkSPORT, Durham namechecked the Daily Record, highlighting the fact we backed a Scotland win ahead of the game against the Auld Enemy. Six Record Sport writers made their predictions for the match, with four forecasting victory and two a draw. And Durham believes those north of the border got carried away. He said: “I heard you Ally McCoist saying it was a rude awakening for Scotland and you’re right. Maybe it’s something Scotland needed ahead of the Euros, which you will qualify for. They’ve been brilliant in qualifying.

“But I was reading the papers up here before the game. There were six columnists in one of the papers and none of them predicted an English win. Four Scotland wins and two draws were predicted.

“I read one of the columnists, Keith Jackson, predicting Scotland would do something ‘truly special’ in Germany. But I think last night was what was needed for all of those guys to calm their skins down and realise when you get to a tournament, there are some seriously good teams there.

“All these Scots can belittle England all they like but they’re fantastic. Thankfully most of the papers have said that. In the marks out of 10 in the Daily Record, no one got above six. It’s what was needed as most of the fans were definitely getting carried away.”
