Who is Sekou Kone? Meet Man United new wonderkid signing who has secret Tottenham link

Manchester United have reportedly agreed to sign Mali youth international Sekou Kone from Guidars FC.

That's according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims the 18-year-old midfielder will swap his homeland for Old Trafford before the end of the transfer window. United reportedly fended off interest from 'several clubs' for Kone's signature, who could now be set for an exciting future in Manchester.

Fans will be eager to see the new signing in action, with the young midfielder being something of an unknown quantity before his surprise switch to United. What do we know about the 18-year-old set to be the Reds' latest academy swoop? MEN Sport has taken a look.

Kone is an 18-year-old defensive midfielder who plays for both Guidars FC and Mali's youth team.

Kone started his career with the JMG academy in Bamako, Mail, following in the footsteps of Tottenham Hotspur and Mali international Yves Bissouma.

Kone plays in midfield, either in a central role or a deep-lying defensive position.

Romano says that Kone is part of United's long-term plan, in a similar way to Chido Obi Martin who joined the club from Arsenal earlier this month, pending Premier League approval.

Like Obi Martin, Kone is a youth international for his country and will more than likely join up with United's youth teams for the 2024/25 season.

No price has been revealed at this stage. However, United will be expected to pay a fair sum for a player who impressed at last year's under-17s FIFA World Cup as Mali beat Argentina to claim a third-place finish in Indonesia.
