When Rasmus Hojlund's shirt number will be announced by Manchester United

Manchester United are set to confirm Rasmus Hojlund's shirt number before this weekend's game against Arsenal.

The Manchester Evening News understands Hojlund's squad number will be confirmed after the transfer window has closed on Friday and that an announcement is expected before Erik ten Hag's side travel to the Emirates to play Arsenal.

The striker wore the number 17 shirt during his time at Atalanta and that number is now free after the departure of Fred.

Hojlund signed from Atalanta in a deal worth up to £72million with a stress fracture of the back earlier this month, which means he's yet to make his debut, but he's close to a return to fitness and is believed to be in contention to feature on Sunday.

The 20-year-old returned to full training at Carrington last week and he was named in Denmark's squad for the upcoming September international break for Euro 2024 qualifying games against San Marino and Finland.

Hojlund has quickly become a key player for Denmark and provided he's fit, he's set to start those upcoming international games.

When the provisional squad numbers were submitted to the Premier League ahead of the new season, Hojlund was not given a number and it was stressed they were subject to change after the transfer window closed.

As things stand, Alejandro Garnacho wears No.49 but the youngster could change that number after deadline day.
