What 'very expensive' thing Rio Ferdinand thinks Manchester United don't have

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes Erik ten Hag is being let down by his players because they are not concentrating for the full 90 minutes.

United signed a number of first-team players in the summer in a bid to improve on their third-place finish. Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund were among the names added to the squad.

However, the beginning of this campaign has been difficult for the Reds. United have only won twice all season and had lost three matches in a row in all competitions ahead of their trip to Burnley.

Ahead of the Burnley clash, Ferdinand was asked on TNT Sports for his opinion on Ten Hag's demeanour pre-match. He responded: "I sensed a lot of frustration, I think there’s so many basics they’re not getting right at the moment.

"They’re putting all the pieces in place on the training pitch but when it comes down to it, the players aren’t delivering on the pitch. Simple little lapses of concentration can be so frustrating - concentration is a huge thing in the game.

"Concentration for 90 minutes is a very expensive thing because only the best players have it. The most dependable players over the last year or two aren’t doing that."

United have been suffering with a number of injury issues since the season began and another concern came prior to kick-off with Lisandro Martinez not travelling. Raphael Varane and Sofyan Amrabat were fit enough to make the bench.
