Rio Ferdinand says Newcastle United striker 'has more to his game' than Man City's Erling Haaland

Rio Ferdinand believes Alexander Isak “has more to his game” than Manchester City hitman Erling Haaland.

Top-flight defences have been on red alert since City brought Haaland to English football last year. It took just one campaign for the Norwegian to break the record for the most goals scored in a Premier League season.

Across all competitions, Haaland bagged 52 across all competitions as Pep Guardiola romped to a historic treble, finally clinching the Champions League trophy which had eluded him for so long. But three straight defeats in domestic competition - as well as no goal in three for Haaland - has triggered concerns.

The striker managed just 23 touches in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, with City as a whole managing just one shot on target - their fewest in a league game since 2010. By contrast, another Scandinavian, Swedish hitman Isak, bagged two in a 2-2 draw with West Ham United.

The Newcastle United forward is right behind Haaland in the Premier League’s Golden Boot race and, capable of playing through the middle or out wide, has provided options for Eddie Howe since his arrival. Former Manchester United captain Ferdinand regards Haaland as the better striker but is unsure whether he has a more well-rounded game.

“He's (Isak) doing well,” Ferdinand told Vibe with Five. “Potentially, yeah, he could be (second best striker in the league). He's got more to his game than Haaland. I'm not saying he's anywhere near...he's a different player. Haaland is a finisher. Brutal, the best finisher."
