What next for Scott Allan? Former Celtic and Hibs star faces career crossroads after Arbroath exit

Celtic ousted Rangers in the race to snap up Scott Allan back in 2015 - but nine years on he is looking for his next challenge after being let go by Arbroath.

The former Hoops midfielder failed to reach the heights predicted by Ronny Deila on his arrival at Parkhead after describing him as a player of huge potential, hungry for success and someone who could have a big future in Glasgow's east end. There has never been any doubt about the first part of that statement with his eye for a pass and way he could influence a game when at his very best up there with any of his SPFL rivals.

But things didn't work out at Celtic with Brendan Rodgers moving him on with loan spells at Rotherham, Dundee and Hibs following before a permanent switch back to Easter Road. A heart issue sidelined the 32-year-old for an extended period with his football career taking him to part-time Arbroath in the Scottish Championship. But again, he was back on the move after agreeing a season-long loan at Larne in the NIFL Irish Premiership. He only played in eight games across all competitions but signed off on a high by netting in the final day clinch against Coleraine as the club secured back-to-back league wins.

But it is now another summer of searching and decisions for Allan after Arbroath confirmed he will be leaving Gayfield. At just 32, he will certainly feel he has plenty left in the tank and something to offer. Whether that be back in Scotland, a return to Larne or abroad and if he will play part-time or full-time who knows. The next chapter begins.
