Joe Hart is 'irreplaceable' for Celtic as Chris Sutton makes plea to departing keeper

Chris Sutton has once again urged Joe Hart to make a retirement U-turn and stay with Celtic for another season.

The veteran keeper made his last Parkhead appearance as Brendan Rodgers' side marked trophy day with a 3-2 win over St Mirren. Fans paid tribute to hart with a second half banner and he was given a standing ovation as he was subbed off late on for Scott Bain. Hart also lifted the trophy alongside skipper Callum McGregor, and will be targeting another winners medal after next weekend's Scottish Cup Final clash against Rangers.

Hart said after the game that physically, he feels he could keep playing but wanted to go out at his peak. He said: "I wanted to commit for the three years and give everything. I got to a point in my life where I was potentially on the way out and got another opportunity. I don't want to push that luck, I want to finish strong, in a special place, in a special club.

"That's just me - it's my time to move aside and let someone else have some fun. It's definitely not physical, I feel fine. But I felt like this was the right moment. I felt really uncomfortable knowing but not telling the manager or the lads. I wanted to say it, and for everyone to understand that I was doing it and make sure I worked hard and was at my peak when I finished."

However, Sutton reckons the impact Hart has had on Celtic means he should seriously consider putting on the clubs for one more campaign. He wrote in his Record Sport column that if he was in Brendan Rodgers' shoes, he'd be trying to convince Hart to sign on for one more year.
