What Mohamed Salah has told Liverpool team-mates about his future amid contract stalemate

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has told team-mates his preference is to sign a new deal at Anfield, despite an ongoing stalemate in negotiations with the club over extending his contract.

The Egyptian is seeking a significant increase on his £200,000-a-week deal, with Salah’s representatives demanding in excess of £400,000-a-week.

Liverpool are believed to be offering a basic rate of around £230,000-a-week to put Salah on the same level as Virgil van Dijk, while image rights could take the deal even higher.

The club fear caving into Salah’s demands will break the wage structure at Anfield, with the likes of Van Dijk, Alisson and Fabinho all likely to demand salary increases if the bar is raised so high.

Salah’s contract runs for another 18 months and he’s willing to leave the club if they do not better their offer, as the former Chelsea winger believes his status as one of the world’s finest players needs to be recognised.

But Bild say he has told team-mates that his first preference is to remain at Anfield and he would rather that a resolution came with the club.

Salah is happy on Merseyside and he’s been in to pform this term, scoring 28 times in 36 appearances in all competitions this term.

Speaking last week, Jurgen Klopp said there was ‘no rush’ on Salah’s situation and that they’ve made the winger a good offer.

‘I think Mo definitely expects this club to be ambitious and we are. It’s Mo’s decision. The club did what it can do. It is all fine.

‘All fine from my point of view. Nothing has happened further, no signing, no rejection, we just have to wait. Completely fine, no rush.’
