Carlos Corberan pinpoints why poor Huddersfield Town were soundly beaten at Millwall

Carlos Corberan has given a detailed blow by blow explanation for why his side ended up coming off second best to Millwall in practically every area in their 2-0 defeat at The Den.

Huddersfield Town put in their worst performance for some months as their 17-game unbeaten streak in the league came to an end, with Benik Afobe’s brace the very least an excellent Millwall side deserved on the day.

The Terriers remain third in the table but the gap to seventh place has narrowed to just four points with every side below them in the table except Blackburn holding at least one game in hand.

Asked for his view on the game, head coach Corberan said: “If I had to give you in a few words the conclusion of the game, I thought that today Millwall were better than us and that’s why we lost the game.”

Pressed on where he thought Millwall had been the better side, Corberan replied: “If we analyse the defence first…when we were pressing in the offensive half – in the first half especially, because it was the only moment they were trying to play from the back – maybe we weren’t aggressive enough in many individual one vs one situations.

“In many of these moments they were beating the press and moving us to a moment we didn’t want to be in, which was defending in our [half]. The deep position of the midfielders created the feeling that they were making more passes than we had to concede to them, and we had to be more aggressive with the four midfielders to stop a little bit the feeling they could take control of the game or control of the ball.
