What Marcus Rashford has told Rasmus Hojlund ahead of Manchester United vs Man City

Marcus Rashford is confident he can build a strike partnership with Rasmus Hojlund and says there is “no better time” for him to open his Premier League account for Manchester United than in Sunday’s derby.

All three of Hojlund’s goals so far have come in the Champions League, having yet to find the net in his six league matches. Two of his goals have been assisted by Marcus Rashford, who himself has only found the net once this term.

He almost assisted a third in the 2-1 win over Sheffield United, when Rashford’s cross just evaded the late-arriving outstretched toe of Hojlund. Rashford is nevertheless happy with his connection with the Dane up to this point and hopes it will continue to grow once their cohesion starts to align.

“I think the timing [of crosses to Hojlund] has been quite good,” the England star told club media. “I feel like once they start to go in a bit more, we’ll start to get a real partnership and understanding of the finer details of how he likes to receive balls, and how I like to receive balls.

“But I can see it coming, I can see it building. He’s a young player and he’s got a long future ahead of him and he’s got a lot of abilities that he can use to help this club win trophies, which is always the aim.

“So I'm looking forward to playing with him more and more. Like I said, it’s just about adjustments and finding ways to play to each other’s strengths as much as we can.”

When asked about whether Hojlund can break his Premier League duck against Manchester City this weekend, Rashford replied: “I’ve told him already there’s no better time!”
