Manchester United told what Kobbie Mainoo and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have in common

Fulham captain Tom Cairney says Kobbie Mainoo and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer share something in common at Manchester United.

The 18-year-old has impressed this season for United and now a regular starter for Erik ten Hag. The teenager oozed class from the moment he was introduced to the Premier League scene after being handed his league debut against Everton in November.

Having made 10 league appearances so far, Mainoo has already caught the eye of England boss Gareth Southgate, who is monitoring his development. "He’s quite a progressive player but he’s had a fabulous start to his career and it will be good to monitor him as we go forward," Southgate recently said.

Mainoo - who has represented England at Under-17s, Under-18s and Under-19s level - is also eligible to switch his allegiance to Ghana due to his parents, with the Ghanian FA considering an approach. He netted his first Premier League goal in the 4-3 victory over Wolves earlier this month, scoring a 97th-minute winner at Molineux.

Speaking about the midfielder in the Footballer's Football Podcast, Fulham star Cairney said Mainoo reminded him of former United striker Solskjaer. He said: "Kobbie Mainoo he's a beautiful footballer. What's most impressive for me is his legs, his drives forward, he's very dynamic, he's very athletic, he'll get in the box.

"He can brush people away like his header against Villa at the weekend. He just held the full-back off with his left arm and bang. He's scoring off the bench, he's like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer."
