West Ham 'should've taken gamble' on 24 y/o goalscorer now worth £100m

West Ham should have gambled on former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham last summer, claims ex-Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer.

The 24-year-old has been a revelation at AS Roma this season, joining the Italian outfit in a £34m deal after previously being linked with a move to the London Stadium.

Amid an incredible campaign under Jose Mourinho, Roma have reportedly slapped a whopping £100m price tag on Abraham’s head to ward off interest.

According to the Daily Mail, the England international has caught the attention of some of the Premier League’s top clubs with his performances at the Stadio Olimpico, forcing Roma to do the above in a bid to keep hold of their talisman.

In his debut season in Italy, Abraham has scored over 20 goals in all competitions and is on course to reach the 30-goal mark, making it no surprise that other outfits are looking at him.

Prior to joining Mourinho’s side, multiple outlets, including the Evening Standard, claimed that Abraham was a target for West Ham. However, manager David Moyes suggested that Chelsea’s asking price was too high.

Palmer, though, feels signing Abraham for £34m was well worth a gamble, especially given the Hammers’ lack of options up front.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the former Leeds United and Southampton player said: “Even at the time, I said when he was going for the money he was going for, at his age, they should have taken a gamble on him, £34m. West Ham were desperate for a striker. At his age, it was worth paying that money.”
