Gennady Golovkin vs Ryota Murata: GGG talks up 'massive fight'

Gennady Golovkin has hyped up his fight against Ryota Murata this weekend by declaring it a ‘massive’ fight.

Across his 43 professional bouts in boxing, Gennady Golovkin has established himself as one of the most fearsome boxers in the sport. From his precision to possessing a granite chin, the veteran – who turns 40 on Friday – seems to be ageing like a fine wine.

Golovkin is easily one of the most respected fighters in all of combat sports and this Saturday night, he’ll get back into the squared circle for the first time since December 2020.

He’ll be doing so against Japanese icon Ryota Murata who holds a 16-2 record, with both of his defeats eventually being avenged.

The collision is set for the Saitama Super Arena with the IBF, IBO and WBA (Super) middleweight titles being up for grabs.

The stakes are incredibly high and in a preview of the fight that he posted to Instagram, GGG was fired up about the prospect of heading into enemy territory.

“I remember my first reaction [to Murata fight in Japan]. I immediately thought that it’s going to be massive. That it’s going to be massive, spectacular and truly memorable. Let’s say, it’s going to be big, because fights in Japan have their own history and, come to think of it, now I’m going to be a part of that history.”

“Every challenge allows you to evolve and live your life to the fullest. So I love such challenges.

“This way my life is more complete. You can learn more about yourself.”

“Yes, I’m focused on this fight. I don’t allow myself to think about anything else. I’m not jumping over this fight, I’m not underestimating my opponent.”

Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez has been one hell of a rivalry with Canelo having one win over Kazakhstan’s boxing sensation. The
