West Ham: 'Big buzz' now around 56-goal London Stadium target

West Ham target Jesse Lingard is attracting attention from the MLS, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The free agent has been strongly linked with the Hammers, amongst other Premier League clubs, but Jones reckons that a move Stateside could also be on the cards.

Competition for the attacker’s signature has intensified since his Manchester United contract ran out last month, although Lingard is still no closer to knowing where he’ll be playing his football next season.

Tottenham and Everton have recently joined the race for the 29-year-old, with the former siting a move to boost their homegrown numbers.

But ESPN believe that Lingard, who’s scored 56 goals in his club career, is expected to travel to the USA and listen to offers from various MLS teams.

The report says that two American outfits are keen on his services, with the pair set to be offering ‘ground-breaking’ deals.

And Jones seems to think that the two Major League Soccer sides are from Los Angeles, with LAFC, who Gareth Bale recently signed for, and LA Galaxy, both interested in signing him.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “There is a big buzz around Lingard to LAFC, but they’ll have a battle on their hands because LA Galaxy also want to talk to him. The feeling is that LAFC have the edge and want talks to pick up speed fast.”

It would be an exciting challenge, but the MLS is often viewed as a retirement home, and with plenty of years still left in his career, it would be a surprise to see him move to America this early.

Furthermore, moving across the pond wouldn’t exactly improve his chances of working his way back into the England squad.
