West Ham: £90k-a-week star could be 'bargain signing' at London Stadium

West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca could turn out to be ‘a bit of a bargain’ in the long run, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The talented 23-year-old has made a very promising start to life on English shores and has played a key role in the Hammers transforming their early season woes in recent weeks.

Back in July, West Ham splashed out £35.5 million prise Scamacca away from Serie A outfit Sassuolo, with the player penning a five-year contract worth £90,000-per-week that includes the option of a further 12 months.

David Moyes couldn’t hide his excitement at the Italy international’s arrival at his unveiling, stating that he has a ‘really bright future’ in the game and that he’s ‘looking forward’ to working with him.

"We've been looking to add more strength to our attacking options for a while, so we're delighted to have got Gianluca in,” said the Scottish tactician.

“He comes really well recommended - and we're looking forward to working with him. He's a young centre-forward with a really bright future ahead of him."

And Scamacca has lived up to those expectations so far, scoring a handful of goals both domestically and in Europe, including some memorable strikes against Fulham and Silkeborg IF.

Jones believes that Scamacca could emulate former West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic as he also ‘brings things to life’ in the final third of the pitch.
