West Ham: 'Jury out' over £150k-a-week star at London Stadium

West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta is a ‘huge talent’ but the ‘jury’s out’ over whether he will prove to be a success at the London Stadium, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The Hammers spent more than £160million during the summer transfer window, with a large chunk of that outlay being used to acquire the creative midfielder.

West Ham shattered their record transfer fee when they parted with £51million in order to tempt Paqueta away from French giants Lyon during the final days of the summer window.

Following the big-money deal, Moyes admitted the 25-year-old is a star he has ‘admired from afar for a very long time’.

Paqueta penned a £150,000-per-week contract which will keep him in east London until the summer of 2027 and he has already made an impact in his new surroundings.

The talisman registered assists in victories over Anderlecht and Fulham earlier this month, but he is still waiting to find the back of the net for the first time in claret and blue.

Paqueta, a 35-cap Brazil international, has set his sights on booking a place on his homeland's flight to Qatar for the World Cup.

Brown still has doubts over whether Paqueta will reach his full potential while on West Ham's books despite already showing glimpses of what he has to offer.

The journalist believes the South American will take a prolonged period of time to fully adapt to the rigours of English football.
