Welling United manager Ryan Maxwell knows Isthmian Premier safety is within their grasp when they host Potters Bar

Ryan Maxwell will consider Welling United safe if they beat Potters Bar tonight.

Maxwell’s side moved two points clear of the Isthmian Premier relegation zone, rising to 17th place, after beating Dulwich Hamlet 2-0 at home on Saturday.

And they can make that five points, with two games to play, if they put relegated Potters Bar to the sword in a rearranged match at Park View Road this evening.

There are only two relegation spots still to be decided, currently occupied by Hashtag and Cray Valley, while Carshalton sit just outside the bottom four, a point behind Welling.

“If we win on Tuesday, I would say that’s it, in my experience and in my gut,” said Wings boss Maxwell.

“Our goal difference is superior to Hashtag and Cray and we would jump further ahead of them and Carshalton.

“That puts the probability of staying up extremely high in our favour because Hashtag and Cray would both need to win both games and the chances of that are slim.

“But we’ve not relied on anybody, we don’t want help, we rely on ourselves and that’s the motto we’ve had since I took over.

“It’s been let’s do it the hard way, let’s fight for every point, don’t look at the table, look at us, and if we take care of ourselves, that will take care of the bigger picture.

“Potters Bar are down and it can go either way when you’re playing a team who are already relegated.

“They’re either down and out, or they think ‘we might as well go and enjoy a game of football’ but, again, we’re not focusing on them at all.

“They’re just another team we have to beat. It’s not rocket science, it’s not complicated, it’s a game of football that we must win.

“That’s the attitude we’ve had so far and one we’ll adopt again on Tuesday.

“Every point and every win is important
