Maidstone United manager George Elokobi expects Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong to miss the rest of the season but David Agbontohoma may yet return
Maidstone midfielder Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong is set to miss the rest of the season.
Berkeley-Agyepong, who only rejoined the club a couple of weeks ago, suffered a suspected Achilles injury in the Stones’ goalless draw at Horsham on Saturday.
Introduced midway through the second half, he went down in added time and had to be helped off.
Maidstone host National League South champions-elect Worthing in an all-ticket match this Saturday and travel to Bath City on the final day.
“It’s sad because he wanted to come in and help us and he’s done that but he’s going to be a big miss for us these last two games and if we do make it through (to the play-offs),” said Maidstone manager George Elokobi.
“It’s sad to see a player go down injured of his quality and it’s testing times for us and myself as a manager.
“But, again, it’s another opportunity for someone else to stake their claim and we’ve just got to make sure we regroup, we look after him, and the medical team will assess him properly, and then we’ll go from there.”
Berkeley-Agyepong had been a free agent since leaving Maidstone at the end of last season.
A move to America fell through and the attacking midfielder had been keeping himself in shape, co-founding a running club, before linking back up with Maidstone.
The Horsham game was his fourth substitute appearance since starting his third spell at the Gallagher Stadium.
“Our players are soldiers, they’re warriors, and they put their bodies on the line,” said Elokobi.
“He’s been training, he’s looked after his body but sometimes these injuries happen.
“I hope it’s not a long-term one because he’s a selfless man and a selfless player.
“He’s come in, he’s committed to try and help us out and, whatever happens between now and
