'We need to evaluate him' - Corberan waits on Huddersfield Town striker injury update

Carlos Corberan will wait and assess the extent of Danny Ward’s injury after his striker asked to be withdrawn from Friday night’s game at halftime. Ward had started the 2-2 draw against Queens Park Rangers but after a difficult first 45 minutes he was replaced by Duane Holmes at the break.

Ward has been a huge part of Town’s success this season and is their top scorer by some way. Head coach Corberan will be desperate not to lose his starting striker as the Terriers look to round out the season in style and earn that place in the play-offs. The point against QPR keeps them third in the Championship table after a day’s worth of results fell favourably for Town.

The Terriers led twice in the game after an early own goal was cancelled out late in the first half by Luke Amos’ strike, and then Harry Toffolo’s second-half header saw them take a lead that only lasted five minutes thanks to Ilias Chair’s equaliser. QPR ended the game the better side but Town held on for another vital point towards their promotion hopes.

Speaking after the game Corberan explained he would have to wait and find out himself whether the issue with Ward was a serious one. “He was asking for the change at halftime… he had an injury, he couldn't continue, he couldn’t keep playing,” said Town’s head coach, “I’ve not talked to my medical staff yet so I don't know if it was a precaution or a serious injury.

“I don’t know what the injury is, the medical staff just told me he couldn't keep playing so I just focused on adapting. We need to evaluate him. My idea was to play with him today and then let him rest, let's see what happens, it's not going to change my plan because my idea was to play Middlesbrough without Danny Ward.”
