'We have to' - Timothy Castagne makes brutally honest Leicester City admission after Roma

Leicester City defender Timothy Castagne has admitted his team must look at where to improve and finish this season as they wish to start the next.

Speaking after the crushing 1-0 defeat in Rome on Thursday evening, Castagne was honest and open about Leicester's performance, admitted the players "didn't do our jobs" over the course of 90 minutes in the Italian capital during the Europa Conference League loss.

The Belgian came on as a second-half substitute for Ricardo Pereira in the tie as City looked to attack higher up the pitch with both Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho up front. They could not find a way through, though, and the players are taking full responsibility for the loss.

“We’re very disappointed,” Castagne told LCFC TV. “I think we have only ourselves to blame. We give again a [goal from] a corner-kick. We could have done better, they had the game in hand then just started defending and they did it very well. It was tough at that point.

“Against PSV and two games against Roma, we start and concede in the first half, so it’s always tough to overcome. At the end of the day, we have to look at where we could do better.

“We didn’t do our jobs, so that’s on us. The atmosphere here, it should fire us even more. You want to silence them, you want to be ready, every tackle, every duel, and we did it well in other games. We have to be better, that’s it.”

There are now five games left of the Premier League season and Castagne says City must use them to build momentum if they are to start next season on the right foot.

“That shows everyone that having the chance to play in Europe is great for experience and great for our level,” he said. “It was a good game today against a great opponent.
