Preston boss Ryan Lowe sends message to Sheffield United as he makes Middlesbrough vow

Preston manager Ryan Lowe says his players will not have half an eye on their summer break when they entertain Middlesbrough on Saturday. The Lilywhites may have nothing but pride to play for but they can have a big say in the play-off race.

Sheffield United will begin the day in fifth, two points ahead of seventh-placed Middlesbrough. Victory for the Blades will guarantee a spot in the end of season shoot-out, while anything less and Paul Heckingbottom's men will need a favour from elsewhere.

Luton Town are level on points with United in sixth and entertain Reading. Millwall, in eighth, trail Luton by three points but have a better goal difference. They can also qualify but would need an emphatic goal difference swing to catch United.

With that in mind, the Blades will have an eye on what's happening at Deepdale and Kenilworth Road if they fail to get the job done at Bramall Lane. And those of a red and white persuasion will be pleased to hear Lowe plans on ensuring his side play their part in the final day drama.

“We want to finish on a high, and the way we played in the second half at Barnsley, creating loads of chances, is what I want,” he said.

“It was important to beat Barnsley, to get back on the bike after a couple of losses. We got back on the bike, and now we have a different challenge against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

“It’s our last home game, and I want the kids and families walking around the pitch afterwards with the players and staff. I want that after winning, not having lost. That is the challenge for us.”
