Waterford end 36-year wait for win over Tipperary in Munster Football Championship
Two late goals from Tom O'Connell gave Waterford their first senior championship win in 14 years at a wind-swept Fraher Field as Tipperary slumped out of Munster at the first hurdle.
The Déise had not been beaten Tipp in 36 years in the province and trailed at the end of a low-quality first half by 1-02 to 0-01.
A swirling wind severely disrupted the game throughout and made scoring difficult.
But it was Waterford who came out firing in the second period.
Stephen Curry's two points and then a score from O'Connell brought them level.
A close finish had been expected only for the two goals from the Waterford forward to decide the game and spark scenes of delight after many difficult years for the county in football.
