Watch Bob MacIntyre lead raucous Ryder Cup crowd in Thunderclap as fans ramp it up in Rome

Bob MacIntyre got the crowd going in Rome after accepting their demand to start a first-tee Thunderclap.

The Scottish star was getting ready for his final practice round ahead of the 44th Ryder Cup when home galleries began singing for him to get it going. MacIntyre responded and there were more celebrations for the Euro fans as Viktor Hovland smashed a hole-in-one at the par four fifth. The Norwegian fired a drive straight into the cup to the delight of his playing partners.

Luke Donald’s side are receiving huge backing at Marco Simone Golf and County Club with fairways lined with fans ramping it up ahead of tomorrow’s opening day of competition. Later today Donald and US leader Zach Johnson will announce their pairings for the morning foursomes. It’s expected Donald will send out Jon Rahm first to set the tone amid what is likely to be a raucous atmosphere.

The Marco Simone course is bracing itself for an American invasion. It has emerged thousands of American fans have bought most of the re-sale tickets made available by Ryder Cup Europe bosses.

Up to 30,000 American fans are now expected to make the trip across the Atlantic to cheer on Zach Johnson’s men. Its means Team USA will have the biggest backing away from home in the competition’s history.
