Massive fire engulfs Ryder Cup venue as building goes up in flames at Marco Simone golf club

A massive fire has engulfed a building at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club just days after it hosted the Ryder Cup.

The famous venue near Rome in Italy hosted the biggest event in golf as Luke Donald led Team Europe to a famous win over the USA. Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood and Scotland's Bob MacIntyre were among the heroes that reclaimed the trophy for Europe on home turf. This time last week the opening ceremony was getting underway before three big days of action which concluded early on Sunday evening.

Video emerging on social media show a three-storey hospitality stand engulfed in flames with clouds of black smoke seen for miles out from the 350-acre country club. The worrying scenes were quickly attended by firefighters and the media in Italy report no casualties have been recorded yet. Locals have been advised to keep their windows closes due to the smoke billowing outwards and all roads leading to the venue have been temporarily closed.
