Bob MacIntyre wants 'many' more Ryder Cup glory days but not til he's finished celebrating this one

The Scottish star has etched his name into the folklore of the European team after playing his part in joyous Ryder Cup victory for skipper Luke Donald’s superstars in Rome.

Bob MacIntyre and his team-mates kicked-off the celebrations as soon as the trophy was regained at Marco Simone. The 27-year-old comes home for this week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship as the home supporters prepare a heroes reception. But MacIntyre’s immediate stop-off was a shindig at one of his pals’ places as he said: “There’s a guy back home who couldn’t make it to Rome.

“He’s called Declan, he owns the Lorne Bar, the best restaurant in Oban. I’m sure he’ll be partying right now. He was in Greece on holiday. His wife tried to change it. I said to him, ‘If we win the Ryder Cup, you are shutting that place and we’ll have a party’. And we are.

“Everyone close to me will go there and enjoy it. Then I’ll pitch up at the Dunhill. I don’t know when!”

MacIntyre made his way home with his reputation enhanced and his bond amongst the elite players of the European game cemented. The Scot now has a connection with the likes of Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm that can only be built within a Ryder Cup team room and cannot be broken.

MacIntyre was respected and welcomed by the big guns and, crucially, he played his part on the course to assist the success by standing up to American fire. There were only two sessions where Zach Johnson’s side threatened any resistance and the Scot was ready for them.

First on the afternoon of day two when they won the fourballs 3-1. That Euro point came from MacIntyre and Justin Rose. Then again for an hour in the Sunday singles, but as team-mates stumbled, MacIntyre was never headed by Wyndham Clark before beating the US Open
