Wales local election results, polls, reaction, winners and losers as counting starts - live

Counting is set to start on Friday morning, March 6, for Wales' local elections 2022. Voters across the nation went to the polls on Thursday to elect councillors and ruling groups in all of Wales' 22 councils.

We'll bring you live updates, reaction and results from around Wales on this live blog. We're expecting the first results to come around 2pm.on Friday with the latest council expected to be at around 9pm - although there may be recounts. You can see the full list of when councils expect to declare their results here.

In Wales, changes have been made to the boundaries and how many councillors stand in some wards. It means there is now a total of 1,234 councillors who represent Wales, however, more than 70 have already been elected because no-one stood against them.

On Friday, we'll have reporters out at counts across Wales bringing you the latest news as soon as it's available. You can catch up on all our coverage of elections here.

In England, counting in some council areas started overnight and the early results suggest that the Conservatives have endured a difficult day the polls. Labour is expected to take some significant wins in London with longstanding Tory councils in Wandsworth and Barnet turning red. Westminster is also looking set to turn Labour.

Northern Ireland will start counting the results from its Assembly elections this morning amid expectation that Sinn Fein may become the largest party for the first time.
