Aberdeen striker joins Airdrie as boss hails 'natural goalscorer'

Airdrie have made their second summer signing inside 24 hours after the arrival of striker Aaron Reid from Aberdeen.

The Diamonds confirmed the arrival of defender Dylan MacDonald from Lowland League champions East Kilbride yesterday and now Rhys McCabe has added Reid, following the expiry of his contract at Aberdeen. He now links up with fellow former Don Mason Hancock at New Broomfield.

He has made a number of loan spells while attached to the Pittodrie club, featuring in the lower leagues at Elgin City, Peterhead and Formartine.

Boss Rhys McCabe was delighted to bring in the 6’4” striker and said: "We’ve done a wee bit of work in terms of Aaron, he’s a striker who offers something different to what we have just now. He’s at a good age, and he’s done really well wherever he’s been. He’s had a good pedigree growing up at Aberdeen, and went out to play men’s football and banged loads of goals in.

“He’s a natural goalscorer, and another one who fits the club’s model with attributes that we can develop and kick on to another level. In terms of the fundamentals, he’s certainly got talent in abundance.”
