Wakefield boss Willie Poching admits Trinity's interest in Salford Captain Elijah Taylor

Wakefield Trinity boss Willie Poching admits he is interested in signing Salford Red Devils captain Elijah Taylor for 2023.

The ex-New Zealand second-row, 32, is out of contract at the end of the season and it remains unclear whether he will play on with Salford.

Wakefield have been linked with Taylor who played in the 2013 World Cup final and featured with New Zealand Warriors, Penrith Panthers and Wests Tigers before moving to Super League last year.

Poching, whose Wakefield side look for a third straight win when they head to Salford on Sunday, said: "He's an international, he's experienced, and someone of that quality will always be of interest to us if they can improve our group from within and on the football field.

"It's flattering for us to be mentioned with someone of that ilk and quality. We don't have a lot of internationals in our squad but he's got a lot of experience as well.

"He's their captain and we're playing against him on Sunday. "Whatever happens after that, we'll attack that."

Poching once more will weigh up how to cope without injured England centre Reece Lyne but he has options with Thomas Minns and Jack Croft in their 21-man squad along with full-back Max Jowitt. Utility player Liam Kay is also set to be missing for a "little while" with an ankle issue while Tini Arona is on international duty with the Cook Islands.
