'Very demanding' Carlos Corberan claim ahead of Huddersfield Town clash with Middlesbrough

Huddersfield Town travel to Middlesbrough on Monday for what is a huge lunchtime game for both clubs as they chase a play-off place. The Terriers sit third and are looking to consolidate that with three more points, Boro are in seventh and desperate to leapfrog Sheffield United into the top six.

The game represents Town’s toughest of their remaining fixtures and head coach Carlos Corberan is aware of the challenge ahead. Coming off the back of a very busy Easter week with four points from games against Luton and QPR, the Terriers are in decent form but wary of an opponent who has already beaten them this season.

That 2-1 defeat in November at the John Smith’s Stadium was one of Town’s worst performances of the season. A late own goal made it look like a far closer contest than it was in reality even after a second-half rally from the home side, Corberan remembers it all too well.

“Sometimes the games are very difficult, in the home game they were attacking excellently and breaking the press every time, but we were better in the second half,” said the head coach, “I remember we showed a good reaction after another tough game two days before.”

The challenges of the division’s busy schedule mean Corberan may be forced to rotate for this game, one he was admitting before the striker’s injury on Friday that Danny Ward would not start regardless so he could have a rest. “When you don’t have a lot of time between the games you have to be very clinical in your decisions,” he said after the Luton draw on Friday, “you have to decide which players are in the best condition for the game and which ones give you the best possibilities for the team.”
