Van de Beek move shifts Crystal Palace spotlight to prolific European midfielder
Crystal Palace set their sights on prolific midfielder Daniil Fomin, following Donny van de Beek’s deadline day loan move to Everton.
Van de Beek was the subject of major Premier League interest in January. It was no secret that he was a major target of Patrick Vieira’s at Crystal Palace.
However, Everton’s deadline day coup shifted the Eagles’ spotlight to a Russian midfielder.
Palace were interested in Fomin, from Dynamo Moscow. Though the logistics made a deadline day deal near impossible, according to Fomin’s agent, quoted by HITC.
“Taking a Russian on the final day of the transfer window is almost impossible. Because such a transfer is associated with a whole bunch of organisational problems; visas, medical examinations, signing a contract, work permits,” he said.
Fomin’s agent, Alexander Mayankov, also claims Palace are still tracking the star.
“Crystal Palace are keeping a close eye on him,” he said.
“The team had their number one goal – Van de Beek.
“Because they wanted proven quality, they wanted to take a player from the Premier League. But he moved to Everton.”
Despite a lack of Premier League experience, Fomin is a top midfield player. The Russian is Dynamo’s joint-top scorer this season with six league goals, and could take up the role of Conor Gallagher should Palace not sign him permanently.
As well as Fomin, Joe Aribo is a midfield player Vieira seems keen on taking to Selhurst Park. Chelsea-loanee Gallagher will reportedly head back to Chelsea, and the Rangers man is seen as a good replacement.
Signing both Aribo and Fomin would be a massive boost as Vieira attempts to replicate the effect of this season’s current top scorer.
£10million should be enough to prise Aribo away from Rangers.
