'We definitely can', Bruno Guimaraes vow as he is presented by Newcastle United to media
Bruno Guimarães says he would not have accepted the challenge of signing for Newcastle United if he did not believe the club could stay in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old is convinced that Eddie Howe's side have enough about them to stay up this season and despite having just 15 points on the board, they can remain in the top-flight.
The £33.5million star was presented to the media at St James' Park and could make his debut against Everton in front of a sell out crowd on Tuesday night.
When asked why he decided to pick Newcastle, with Arsenal and Juventus also interested, Guimarães said: "It was definitely the project the club have.
"We know the goal we have the goal to stay up.
"I am happy with my new team-mates and we know we have to work.
"I am really enjoying it, my colleagues are helping me communicate.
"I am really happy by the way I have been made to feel welcome."
And when asked the big question of whether United could achieve survival, the Brazil international added: "Definitely - if not I would not have accepted to come here.
"I am happy with the squad and the manager.
"Staying up is our main objective."
The midfielder was also asked his feelings on the prospect of making his debut against Everton.
The new boy added: "I am very happy to play here, it's a beautiful stadium.
"I know it from Brazil.
"I look forward to playing in front of the fans."
The South American arrives from Lyon regarded as one of the top 20 defensive midfielders in the world.
So what position does he see himself playing in at United: "I will play anywhere for the club.
"I would have played in goal if I was asked."
