Alex Albon labels Max Verstappen 'a very ordinary boy' in honest praise for the Dutchman
Alex Albon has said that Max Verstappen is not an arrogant person but actually a ‘very ordinary boy’ and that the Dutchman does not like to deal in bull****.
The 24-year-old Red Bull star will wear the no.1 on his car for the first time in his Formula 1 career this season, having won the championship in 2021 following a year-long fight with Lewis Hamilton and, of course, a dramatic final lap in Abu Dhabi.
Certainly, few can say that Max did not deserve the crown over the course of the season with both him and Lewis worthy winners and now he’ll be eager to try and defend his title and become a multiple world champion.
What impressed most of all during the season, too, was perhaps his calm demeanour away from the track, even when the pressure on it was ramping up.
He quite often played down the gravitas of the situation he was in as he was gunning for his first world championship, and said that whatever happened it would not change his life.
A commendable perspective to have, then, and it sounds as though his former team-mate Albon, who returns to F1 for 2022 with Williams, would be the first to tell you that that is exactly who Max is as a person – down to earth and not interested in all the drama:
“He’s very honest, Max doesn’t do bull****,” said Albon of Verstappen in an interview for the Formula 1 Magazine.
“He’s very direct. You could say that he is really Dutch!
“He is confident, but certainly not arrogant,” Albon said.
“He just has confidence in what he does.
“We get along very well,” Albon continued. “He loves gaming, I also like to play games. So we sometimes play together.
