Rangers sent clear warning over replacing Connor Goldson

It would take Rangers “quite a bit of money” to replace defender Connor Goldson this summer, claims journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning Rangers could very well find themselves searching for someone to succeed him in the next transfer window.

Rangers have not given up hope of Goldson staying at Ibrox and are still trying to get him to sign a new contract.

Speaking in a recent interview with Sky Sports, managing director Stewart Robertson said: “We’re not resigned to losing him. I know Ross [Wilson] is having regular conversations with all the players whose contracts are expiring in the summer and that’s something that will be addressed in the coming months.”

The above comes as a positive update, with Goldson being such an important player for Rangers over the last couple of seasons.

The £7.2m-rated centre-back has already played 40 times for the Gers this term, while he was ever-present in the club’s 2020/21 title-winning campaign.

Ultimately, Goldson is a player who manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst will not want to lose.

If Rangers do end up losing Goldson, O’Rourke thinks he could cost a lot of money to replace, hence why they need to try and keep hold of him.
