Update emerges on Bolton Wanderers’ plans for Manchester City man

James Trafford and Ian Evatt are interested in exploring the possibility of the 19-year-old remaining at Bolton Wanderers beyond the end of the season.

The Trotters have experienced a stark upturn in form since the turn of the year, coinciding with Trafford arriving between the sticks on loan for the rest of the season in January.

The likes of Ricardo Santos, Will Aimson and George Johnston have gone to new levels with the security that Trafford has provided behind them despite his relative youth.

Evatt explained the situation with Trafford and Manchester City when he spoke to The Bolton News.

He said: “Every signing we make, and even loan players, we have always got one eye on the future.

“He has enjoyed his time here and I was speaking to him this morning, he thinks his game is coming on.

“City have loved it because he is playing at a big club in front of a lot of fans and it is giving him valuable experience.

“So the arrangement works for all parties.

“If we had a deal where we could take him again next season, then why not?

“It is a two-way street.

“We are really happy with him and hopefully he can have a strong end to the season and we will have another look at him in the summer.”

With Ederson so indispensable at Manchester City and with Gavin Bazunu performing so well out on loan, Trafford’s first team prospects at the Etihad Stadium look unlikely and therefore a move to Bolton could be best for both parties.

The Verdict

Trafford enters the final year of his contract at City next season, therefore if he is to be sold, the best chance to recoup a substantial fee will be in the summer.
