Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt makes Dion Charles admission after 'gilt-edged' chances missed

Ian Evatt admits Dion Charles needs a goal after missing several 'gilt-edged' chances in recent games for Bolton Wanderers but has backed the striker that he will take them in the future.

The 26-year-old striker has become a new fan favourite at Wanderers since joining from Accrington Stanley at the start of the January transfer window.

He has gone on to score six goals in 16 games, with his form back on the pitch being rewarded with a call-up for the Northern Ireland squad for their upcoming friendles with Luxembourg and Hungary.

Despite his good form in front of goal and his impressive and hardworking performances which have endeared him to the Wanderers faithful, Charles is going through something of a lean spell of late.

He last scored for Bolton in the 4-0 win over AFC Wimbledon and has gone five games without a goal.

Charles has also had several opportunites in recent matches against Gillingham, Morecambe and Plymouth Argyle which he would be backed to convert, but did not ultimately.

But Evatt has backed his January signing and called on the striker to take the chances when he next gets them.

Charles is part of a competitive striking contingent at Wanderers which also includes Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, Amadou Bakayoko and Dapo Afolayan.

And though Wanderers have not scored as many as they perhaps ought to have in recent weeks given the opportunities they have created, Evatt is pleased that they are being made.

But has called on his strikers to get back to good habits in training which will then pay dividends on matchdays.
