How is Gavin Bazunu getting on away from Manchester City at Portsmouth?

Arriving at Fratton Park on a season-long loan from Manchester City in the summer, Gavin Bazunu is certainly enjoying a productive stint with the League One play-off chasers.

The recently-turned 20-year-old has kept 14 clean sheets in England’s third-tier in 34 matches, conceding just 38 goals in the process.

Interestingly, only the division’s top two have conceded fewer goals than Pompey this season, and whilst the majority of credit will go to the collective, Bazunu has also been central to that on an individual level.

Not only is he an excellent shot-stopper, with quick reactions and positional intelligence, but he is also a composed figure in possession, helping his side build from the back, whilst he also knows when to go longer.

The highly-rated Portsmouth goalkeeper is also a full Republic of Ireland international and has featured 10 times for his country since his debut this time last year.

Bazunu’s impressive season has drawn a lot of praise from Danny Cowley, with the Portsmouth boss’ most recent comments to Portsmouth-based outlet, The News, highlighting just how well he has been doing this season.

“You can’t replace Gavin Bazunu, let me tell you. He’s irreplaceable to us.” Cowley said.

“I already know where he’s going (with his career), but if you need any more evidence then just look at his performance against Ipswich, in what was a really big game for us.”

The young shot-stopper has made quite the impression on his manager and fans alike, and he could still play a big role in what remains of this season, with Pompey currently chasing down a play-off spot.
