Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt sends ex-Arsenal winger Xavier Amaechi message in game time bid

Ian Evatt believes Xavier Amaechi must show consistency with his decision making in a bid to get regular game time for Bolton Wanderers.

The 21-year-old former Arsenal youth product is on loan at Wanderers for the season, after his initial spell from Hamburg was extended for the rest of the campaign.

It has proved to be a frustrating time at Bolton so far for Amaechi largely due to injury, with a fractured metatarsal picked up in pre-season meaning he did not make his competitive debut until mid-November.

He has scored once in 10 appearances, but has recently returned to action after being sidelined again due to a hamstring strain.

Amaechi's most recent appearance saw him come off the bench to tee up Jon Dadi Bodvarsson for a crucial equaliser against Morecambe in a 1-1 draw.

The Wanderers boss has previously spoken of the winger needing to simplify his game in order to achieve success as he makes up for lost time out injured in a bid to impress.

The Bolton boss has repeated that observation and suggested Amaechi must show consistency in his game to showcase the talent he possesses.

And with eight games left this season, Evatt believes the winger must keep working hard and wait for his opportunity.

Evatt told the Manchester Evening News: "Just consistency with decision making is the key part to Xav’s game. He’s got a lot of talent, ther’s no denying that, but we have to see a consistent version of him.

"We have to understand what you are going to do in certain positions so the teammates can react off that, they can trust your decision making. He just wants to impress, it’s as simple as that.
