Unseen gesture shows off two attributes that have Manchester United staff raving about youngster

One of the forgotten moments from Manchester United's first pre-season tour game was Marcus Rashford's excellent assist for the opening goal, whipping a first-time ball forward for Rasmus Hojlund to capitalise on.

Hojlund still had plenty to do, but the aggressive Dane was always going to have too much for Arsenal's 17-year-old centre-back Ayden Heaven. The way in which Hojlund shrugged him aside and scored was still impressive, but his game-ending injury three minutes later was more problematic.

United's latest injury setback overshadowed Hojlund's bright start and relegated discussion about Rashford's assist to the margins. It felt typical for the 26-year-old, who needs a big season at Old Trafford this summer having scored just eight times last season.

It was Rashford's first big moment of pre-season, having had a quiet 45 minutes in Trondheim against Rosenborg and then not playing against Rangers at Murrayfield. It was a clever, instinctive pass, but also one that told you of his intelligence. He knows Hojlund's strengths and knew that kind of pass was going to put him in a good position, and having received the ball in an unpromising area, Rashford had quickly transitioned United to an attack.

When Hojlund scored most of his teammates ran over to congratulate him. Wearing the No.9 shirt, it was important for him to get off the mark early in his own pre-season. But watching the game back, it is noticeable one player does appreciate Rashford's contribution.
