Two decisions Manchester United made last month haven't aged well

It only takes one match to launch a career and change a life forever. The problem for Manchester United is that they don't have an obvious candidate to do that this weekend.

Luke Shaw is a doubt for the trip to face Luton Town on Sunday afternoon, while Tyrell Malacia is still a few weeks away from a potential first appearance of the season.

United's hands are also tied by the fact Aaron Wan-Bissaka is still sidelined, meaning versatile full-back Diogo Dalot will be needed on the right rather than the left.

To pile on even more misery, Lisandro Martinez is also sidelined for the best part of two months. He is far better at centre-back but is at least another option if required on the left flank of defence.

It means a youngster like Harry Amass, 16, could well be in the matchday squad for the weekend trip to Kenilworth Road. He is highly rated by United coaches, but at such a young age he is still a last resort.

Erik ten Hag is more likely to play either Victor Lindelof or Jonny Evans there this weekend and could even be tempted to play Dalot on the left, with another temporary fix on the right instead.

With the options so scarce, United must be wondering whether or not they were a little too hasty with two of their transfer decisions last month.
