Manchester United suffer Bruno Fernandes injury worry and Harry Maguire blow

Harry Maguire has been ruled out of Manchester United’s FA Cup trip to Nottingham Forest while Bruno Fernandes and Raphael Varane are doubts for Wednesday.

Maguire previously suffered a groin injury in December and consequently missed six games while Varane has been unavailable for seven matchday squads this campaign. Captain Fernandes is yet to be ruled out of a fixture due to injury since his arrival in January 2020.

He is thought to have sustained a knock in the latter stages of Saturday’s defeat to Fulham, albeit played through to the final whistle. Fernandes has played in all but two of United’s 36 matches this term, being suspended for the goalless draw at Liverpool and remaining benched for the League Cup win over Crystal Palace.

Rasmus Hojlund and Luke Shaw are set to miss the clash with Forest, although Casemiro and Victor Lindelof have been declared fit to feature.

But should Fernandes and Varane not be able to feature, United would have a total of 10 players sidelined with Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Mason Mount and Anthony Martial also all out.

"We have some question marks in our squad," Ten Hag admitted to club media. "Harry Maguire will not be available. Bruno is doubtful.

“Also Rapha Varane is doubtful. We have to watch and see what we will have and then pick a team, with the aim of course [of winning].”
