Two £60m 'dumb money' transfer concerns Manchester United are weighing up ahead of summer swoop

Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be looking to waste no time in the summer transfer window. He previously described Manchester United as being ‘dumb money’ and now the task is to make them smart again.

That is where Dan Ashworth will come in, with the Newcastle sporting director targeted as the man responsible for implementing a clear sporting strategy that stems from the very top and is deep-rooted in every area of the business.

United will want to make a good impression by signing the right profile of players, and Crystal Palace ace Michael Olise is understood to be one of those on their radar. The 22-year-old’s stats are very impressive. He has six goals and three assists in just 11 appearances so far. There is a reason why he hasn’t played more often, though.

Olise missed 13 matches at the start of the season due to a hamstring injury suffered last summer, which left him sidelined for 135 days in total.

He made up for lost time with his talismanic performances for a lacklustre side, proving to be the Prince of the Palace. Now he is sidelined again with a ‘serious’ hamstring injury that Roy Hodgson described as ‘devastating’ for all involved.

"It's devastating for him, for the club, for everybody really," Hodgson said. "I don't think he was carrying an injury, I think it was more fatigue. It's not easy when you've got a player like Olise on the bench to turn around and say 'just sit there'."
