Turkey boss makes Altay Bayindir admission ahead of potential Manchester United debut

Turkey head coach Vincenzo Montella is confident that Altay Bayindir will deliver the goods for Manchester United in the event of him being called upon against Everton on Sunday.

Ahead of the trip to Goodison Park, United are currently sweating over the availability of first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana. The 27-year-old was forced to pull out of the Cameroon squad at the weekend through injury.

The former Inter Milan ace was forced off in the latter stages of Cameroon's 3-0 win over Mauritius last Friday and, as a result, was forced to pull out of the squad, missing Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Libya. United are yet to provide comment on the severity of his injury.

Should it be serious enough to rule him out of the weekend's trip to Merseyside, manager Erik ten Hag will almost certainly hand a United debut to fellow summer signing Bayindir, who joined the club from Fenerbahce on the final day of the summer transfer window. Onana has started all of the Reds' opening 18 matches this term, including cup matches.

Though Bayindir has been restricted to bench duties at Old Trafford, he has continued to be selected for international duty. After starting Turkey's 3-2 win over Germany on Saturday, he stepped off the bench in the first half of Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Wales, replacing Ugurcan Cakir after just 33 minutes.

"He did very well in our games against Germany and Wales," said Montella. "He is a young goalkeeper and I expect and hope that he can get great experience at United.
