Tributes paid to dad with 'heart of gold' found dead in river months after going missing

Tributes have been paid to a dad who had a 'heart of gold' after he was tragically found dead in a river two months after a huge search was launched to find him.

Carl Brown, 43, from the Urmston area, has been named as the man who was found by emergency crews in the River Mersey near Birkenhead over the weekend.

Following his tragic death, heartfelt tributes from his friends have been paid, describing him as a 'lad's lad' who would 'do anything for anyone' and with a 'heart of gold'.

Police and rescue teams were initially called out to the Manchester Ship Canal following reports that a man had entered the water, on December 5.

On Sunday morning (February 2), almost two months after the major search had commenced, emergency services were called to reports that a man's body had been found in the River Mersey.

The tragic discovery was made near to Priory Wharf in the Birkenhead area of Merseyside, with paramedics and rescue teams called out to the scene at around 9am.

Liverpool and the Wirral coroner's office have since confirmed a file has been received in relation to the death of Carl, which is being referred to the South Manchester coroner's area.
