Travel warning issued ahead of Liverpool vs Man United after heavy snowfall as major update given

A travel warning has been issued by Manchester's Bee Network, urging members of the public to not travel unless 'absolutely necessary' ahead of Manchester United's clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

Heavy snowfall across the country has raised concerns about people's safety due to difficult road and transport conditions. Manchester and Liverpool have been issued an amber alert by the Met Office - this means there is the possibility of travel delays, road and rail closures and potential risk to life.

Although this warning is not as severe as 'dangerous,' extra care should still be taken. Issuing an update on the weather conditions, the Bee Network released a statement on its website warning: "Snow and ice is likely to cause travel disruption do not travel unless absolutely necessary If you do need to travel please allow plenty of time and plan ahead."

It adds: "Cold and icy conditions are set to continue across the region over the coming days, with potential disruption to transport and infrastructure. Snow is also forecast to fall throughout Saturday evening across Greater Manchester and the North West. Some roads and railways may be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.

"The colder weather increases the risk of an accident or breakdown, and people should take extra care if driving, cycling, scooting or walking. Transport for Greater Manchester will be gritting bus stations and interchanges and running trams through the night to keep overhead lines clear of frost. Platforms and crossings are also being treated with grit and anti-icing measures to keep them safe for use. Please check before you travel and take extra care."
