Tottenham: Daniel Levy could hijack £60m deal at Hotspur Way

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy could pull off a late hijack of Chelsea’s transfer of Anthony Gordon from Everton before the deadline passes, according to journalist Paul Brown.

Antonio Conte has overseen a hectic few months of business in north London but could still add to his squad ahead of 11pm on September 1.

Chelsea appear to be leading the way for the 21-year-old this summer with the Blues now prepared to pay £60 million for his services, according to Sky Sports.

The report maintains that Everton’s position is still that Gordon is not for sale at Goodison Park and have already rejected a £45 million offer from Chelsea.

However, The Athletic report that the England Under-21 international wants to leave the Toffees for Stamford Bridge, with one eye on breaking into Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.

After Gordon was an unused substitute for Everton’s Carabao Cup clash with Fleetwood Town, Lampard refused to be drawn on the reports his star man had asked to leave.

Tottenham’s interest in the winger is also well known, however. Earlier in the window, it was reported that Conte wanted to bring in both Richarlison and Gordon in a £100 million double deal.

It was only the Brazilian who ended up making the move to Hotspur Way at the time but there is still a chance for Spurs to hijack their rival’s move for Gordon.

Brown understands that a late Tottenham bid for Gordon cannot be ruled out at this stage.

The journalist says the annoyance it would cause Chelsea would be an appealing factor to the club and its chairman Daniel Levy.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: “Don’t rule out a late bid from Spurs, especially as they know it would really annoy Chelsea, which is something I’m sure the Spurs chairman would love to do.”
