Tottenham: Conte 'might be looking' to strengthen key area at Hotspur Way

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte ‘might be looking’ for another central midfielder this summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Italian tactician is expected to shape the first-team squad at Hotspur Way in his image during the upcoming transfer window after succeeding former boss Nuno Espirito Santo back in November.

Conte has already begun to make his mark at Tottenham, bringing in Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus on deadline day in January.

The duo have made an outstanding start to life in north London, with Kulusevski racking up 11 goal contributions in just 14 appearances for Spurs, while Bentancur has become a mainstay in the engine room, starting 12 Premier League fixtures.

However, Tottenham’s top-four hopes remain in the balance following a difficult start to the season, and Conte is believed to be keen to make further additions when the market reopens for business.

One area of the pitch where the serial winner has been tipped to strengthen is central midfield.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been Bentancur’s chosen partner for the majority of his time in English football, but the Denmark international has been linked with a move to Newcastle in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Oliver Skipp continues to struggle with a pubis injury that has ruled him out for the season and Harry Winks’ long-term future is also shrouded in doubt.

O’Rourke believes the midfield area is ‘going to be a key position’ for Tottenham over the coming months as they look to strengthen their starting XI ahead of next season.
