West Ham show signs of improvement as Nuno gets positive start

Nottingham Forest draws at Crystal Palace as Champions League hopes fade

LONDON: Nottingham Forest drew with Crystal Palace 1-1 in the Premier League on Monday and saw its Champions League hopes fade. Nuno Espírito Santo’s men have spent most of the year in the league top three but a run of one win in four has dropped them behind Chelsea, Newcastle and a resurgent Manchester City. A win at Selhurst Park would have brought them equal with Chelsea and Newcastle but one point means it stays in sixth, with the top five qualifying for next season’s Champions League. Neither team was able to take control of a sometimes scrappy match that saw eight names go in the referee’s book. Palace took the lead with a penalty kick after an hour.

De Bruyne leads Manchester City comeback, Forest beaten by Everton

MANCHESTER: Kevin De Bruyne inspired a Manchester City fightback from two goals down to beat Crystal Palace 5-2, while Nottingham Forest’s challenge for a place in next season’s Champions League stumbled after a 1-0 defeat by Everton on Saturday. In De Bruyne’s first appearance at the Etihad Stadium since announcing his decade in Manchester will come to an end at the end of the season, the Belgian rolled back the years to save City’s blushes. Unbeaten in seven games, Palace made the trip north full of confidence and found themselves 2-0 up after 20 minutes. Eberechi Eze slotted home Ismaila Sarr’s pass before Chris Richards took advantage of poor City defending to head in from a corner. Eze had a third goal narrowly ruled out for offside before De Bruyne stirred the City fightback. The 33-year-old fired in a free-kick off the post before heading down for Omar Marmoush to level just three minutes later. City were rampant after the break as De Bruyne teed up Mateo Kovacic on 47 minutes to complete the comeback. Goalkeeper Ederson provided his fourth Premier League assist of the season for James McAtee to make it 4-2 before Nico O’Reilly’s sweet strike rounded off the scoring. Victory lifts Pep Guardiola’s men back into the top four, with the top five in the Premier League this season qualifying for the Champions League thanks to the strong performance of English sides in European competition. Forest remain in third and on course for their first taste of Europe’s elite competition since they were holders in 1980. However, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have lost their last two games to allow the chasing pack back onto their tails. A forgetful game at the City Ground appeared to be meandering toward a stalemate until Abdoulaye

Morgan Gibbs-White Tells Thomas Tuchel He Deserved England Call-Up

Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White told new England boss Thomas Tuchel he deserved to be included in the German's first squad in charge after only being drafted in at late notice. The omission of the Forest captain from Tuchel's squad on Friday was a surprise given his role in firing Nuno Espirito Santo's men to third in the Premier League. However, the 25-year-old was handed a reprieve on Sunday when an injury to Cole Palmer saw Gibbs-White called up.

Manchester United, Spurs Sink Again As Nottingham Forest Maintain Premier League Title Dream

Manchester United slumped to a 3-1 defeat at home to Brighton as Old Trafford remembered the legendary Denis Law on Sunday, while Tottenham's troubles also persist after they lost 3-2 at Everton. Nottingham Forest maintained an unlikely title challenge with a 3-2 victory over Southampton to take Nuno Espirito Santo's men level with second-placed Arsenal and within six points of Liverpool. United, by contrast, are 24 points adrift of the leaders and focused on mere survival after Brighton stormed Old Trafford for the third consecutive season.
